How the free scanner works
- 1Take or upload a photoOpen foilscan.online on your phone and tap the camera button, or upload a photo you already have. Front of the card, flat, in good light. Sleeves and toploaders are fine.
- 2Confirm the printingFoilScan reads the name, set code and collector number and shows the printing it found. If it is the wrong one, pick the right printing from a list of every card with that name. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
- 3See prices and keep the cardYou get the TCGplayer market price and the Cardmarket trend price for each finish, plus the price history. Add the card to your binder to total your collection's value.
How accurate is it?
In our own test on 2026-11-08 (76 phone photos of real cards), the scanner picked the exact printing first time for 88 to 92 % of cards over two runs, and the right card was in the confirm list for 99 to 100 % of them, one tap away.
Most misses come from glare on holo and reverse-holo cards, angled shots, or numbers that are hard to read. That is why every scan ends with you confirming the printing: FoilScan never adds a card on a guess. It does not grade cards or estimate condition; prices are for near-mint singles.
- Glare-free, flat photo
- Name and number sharp
- Confirm before saving
Free card scanner questions
Is there a free Pokémon card scanner without an app?
Yes. FoilScan runs in your phone's web browser at foilscan.online/scan: open the page, take a photo of the card and confirm the printing. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
How many free scans do I get?
10 scans per day without an account. The count resets at midnight UTC. Card price pages, set lists and your binder are free and unlimited.
Does it scan Japanese Pokémon cards?
Yes. The catalog has every English and Japanese set. Vintage Japanese cards without a printed number or set code go straight to the picker, where you choose the right printing.
Which prices does it show?
TCGplayer market prices in US dollars and Cardmarket trend prices in euros, side by side, for each finish (normal, holo, reverse holo). Prices refresh daily, and FoilScan records each day's price so you can see how a card moved.
How accurate is the scanner?
In our 2026-11-08 test on 76 phone photos it found the exact printing first time for 88–92 % of cards, and the right card was in the confirm list for 99–100 %. You confirm every scan, so a misread never ends up in your binder.
Does it tell me my card's grade or condition?
No. FoilScan identifies the printing and shows near-mint market prices. You can note the condition yourself when you add a card to your binder.
Do you keep my photos?
No. A photo is read once to identify the card and then discarded. FoilScan keeps only what was read (name, set, number) to count your free scans.
Do I need to sign in?
No. Your binder is saved in your browser. Signing in (with Google or an email link) only adds syncing across devices.
